Ray Adams
Dr Ray Adams was educated at the University of East London and
at Churchill College Cambridge. He is a cognitive scientist with a
BSc and PhD. He is the Founder and Centre Head of CIRCUA
(Collaborative International Research for Universal Access) at the
School of Computing Science, Middlesex University, London UK. The
focus of this research centre is on major issues of inclusion and
universal access to the resources of society.
He is author of numerous papers, book chapters and conference
papers. He is also co-author of two books. He is general editor of
a new electronic journal (E-UARM; universal access research
methods) and a member of the committee of international conferences
(ERCIM, CWUAAT, ASSETS and UAHCI) At Middlesex University; he is a
module leader on two modules and supervises five PhD students.
Patrizia
Bertini
Born in Manerbio, Italy, she gained her University MA degree cum
magna laudeat Università degli Studi di Pavia (Italy) in 1999. She
has gained a various experience in research, teaching (both
graduate and undergraduate students), web design, project
management and content design. She has a strong experience in
Accessible web site design, project & content management and
Accessibility auditing.
In 2004 she turned her attention to Digital television: she had
been awarded with the e-Hungary scholarship and has been involved
by ITTK (Internet Trend Research Institute) in Budapest, Hungary,
as Research fellow in order to develop accessible DTT services for
the Government. She also conducted strategic researches for the
ORTT, the Hungarian Broadcasting Association.
Patrizia Bertini , since 2004, in behalf of FBL, works as a
researcher to the EIAO (European Internet Accessibility
Observatory) EU IST project.
She is a multidisciplinary researcher, able to deal with many
aspects concerning Information society: e-government, legal issues,
e-inclusion policies and strategies, technology development, social
computing, HCI, accessibility, usability, assistive technologies,
user needs, illness which leads to disability and linguistics
issues as well.

Background: Timo Ekroos have been privileged to serve as a Project
Manager, Manager of the unit and nowadays as a Project Director in
ISAK activities since 1995. Earlier he served in the Finnish
Association of People with Mobility Disabilities 1987 - 1995 .

Mirja Hiltunen
Mirja Hiltunen (Lic.Art., M.Ed.) is a lecturer in Art Education
at the University of Lapland, Faculty of Art and Design. She has
elaborated a performative art strategy as part of her work in art
education and research. In her licentiate thesis (1999) she studied
interdisciplinary art modes, events and performances held in
Lapland at the end of 1980s and 1990s. During the past ten years,
she has organized and guided several community-based art projects
in Lapland. Her doctoral research deals with community-based art
education in the northern socio-cultural context.

Mäenpää
Professor of Media Management, Dean of the Pori School of Art
and Media in the University of Art and Desing. Former head of the
New Media Program for Professionals, teacher, producer and
publisher. Has MA in philosohy and social sciences at the
University of Helsinki and studies in Multimedia Dramaturgy at the
Theatre Academy 1996-97. Lectures in media design and management,
design-for-all and accessibility in media. Coordinator of
MUMMI-Multimodal Museum Interface -study project and
productions.

Mikko Palo
Studies computing sciences at the University of Oulu. Works at
the Finnish Association of the Deaf (FAD) since 2002. 2002-2006
worked as IT-planner in the FAD Education Unit, work included
developing web sites related to education, especially suitable for
sign language users. Palo also carried out studies for the
Education Unit on how new technical equipment can be used in a
signing environment. Currently works in the Centaur-project as a
technical planner, his work includes eg. training peer trainers and
developing an extranet for the needs of the FAD and the local deaf
clubs.

Riitta
Vivolin-Karen
Project coordinator / The Centaur-project
The Finnish Association of the Deaf
Finished her sign language interpreter training in 1984 and
worked as a full-time sign language interpreter and instructor
until 1989 when she was employed by the Finnish Association of the
Deaf (FAD). Worked as the coordinator for interpreting services at
FAD in 1989-2001, her responsibilities included national referral
of educational interpreters and creating & developing a network
of interpreting agencies in cooperation with local deaf clubs and
local authorities. 2001 - 2006 she worked as a planner in the
Hely-project, studying and developing the instruction of sign
language as a foreign language. The project published for instance
the first general curriculum for sign language instruction in
Finland and a series of four study books. Since winter 2006 she has
been working as the project coordinator of the Centaur-project
(2006 - 2008). Practically throughout her years at FAD she has been
involved in the evaluation and development of tests aiming at
measuring sign language skills. Besides her work Vivolin-Karén has
participated in further training available for sign language
interpreters and completed her Sign Language Interpreter Degree in
2005. Furthermore she has studied adult education and Finnish Sign
Language. In autumn 2006 she will initiate master's studies at the
University of Jyväskylä, majoring in Finnish Sign Language.

Professor for Computer Science, Man-Machine-Interaction (MMI).
Specialisation in MMI for people with disabilities and assistive
technologies. Managing director of service centre for students with
disabilities. Member of OCG, IFIP, AAATE, FEDORA, EDeAN. Founder
and president of the Competence Centre IT for People with
Disabilities (KI-I) and ICC (Computer Camps).

Hugh O'Neill
Hugh O'Neill graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1994. He
completed Ireland's secondary school teaching qualification, the
Higher Diploma in Education in 1997. On graduating, he moved into
IT, working for IBM, and later Perot Systems in both technical
support and project implementation roles until 2002. In 2002 he
began work in Trinity College Dublin (TCD) as the Assistive
Technology Officer for the Student Disability Service. In 2005 he
began work in the Central Remedial Clinic as a project co-ordinator
on two IST framework projects, MAPPED and ARTEMIS. He has recently
completed the MSc in IT in Education in TCD, carrying out research
into online learning for blind people.

Marcelo Júdice is an Industrial and Strategic Design Doctoral

Has gained experience in working in the
Learning Environments Research Group in Medialab for UNESCO and in
companies as visual designer, user interface designer and usability
specialist. Has familiarized herself with accessibility in a
research project done in collaboration with the Systems of
Representation Research Group in Medialab. She is interested in
finding out ways of interacting with computers with the body and in
enhancing the user experience with new visualization
techniques.
Agata Sawicka
Agata Sawicka is a postdoctoral research
fellow at Agder University College. She is involved in two research
lines: one dealing with simulation modeling for dynamic decision
making, and the other dealing with web accessibility. In her work
in the e-Accessibility area she focuses on issues related to
development and communication of web accessibility assessments.

Mikael Snaprud
Mikael H. Snaprud, joined the Agder Research
foundation in Kristiansand, Norway, in 1998 to work on
standardisation and accessibility. Since 2000 he has been associate
professor in ICT at Agder University College. He has worked on
several accessibility projects both for access to the built
environment and access to the web. He is the co-ordinator of the
EIAO project. |
